Our Vision

We envision a future where every young person feels empowered to explore the world through books.

At Mentored Readers, we believe that every young person deserves to find the joy in reading. Our book club is tailored to meet the needs of both enthusiastic and reluctant readers. Through virtual discussions, thoughtful mentoring, and handpicked book selections that inspire, we aim to foster a lifelong love for reading. Our experienced team of educators, authors, and book enthusiasts work together to create an inclusive and supportive space where young people can connect, learn, and grow.

Our Mission

Our mission at Mentored Readers is to ignite a passion for reading in young minds. By connecting young readers to stories that challenge, inspire, and entertain, we aim to transform reluctant and enthusiastic readers into inspiring leaders and shape a generation of critical thinkers, empathetic leaders, and lifelong learners.

Our focus is to:

  • Make reading accessible, fun, and engaging for all types of readers.
  • Foster critical thinking and creativity through book discussions.
  • Provide a positive community for building enriching connections
  • Develop and improve Storytelling and Public Speaking skills

Our Values

Collaboration

We believe in the power of partnerships as a tool to amplify impact and create an enriching learning experience for young minds.

Curiosity & Imagination

We inspire youths to think creatively, dream big, and unlock their imaginative potential through stories and ideas.

Empowerment through Learning

We empower youths to broaden their perspectives, cultivate lifelong learning, and develop the confidence to make informed life decisions.

Community & Connection

We foster a sense of belonging and shared learning among young readers, peers and their communities.

Integrity & Character

We believe in the role of literature in developing moral values, empathy, and a strong sense of purpose.

Our Process

What we read

We read in themes and choose themes based on our skill development calendar at Youthversity.com, trends and stuff young people are really curious about. Some planned themes for the year include; Goal Setting, Financial Literacy, Emotional intelligence, Creativity and Problem solving etc. Our FaithBuilders Program is designed to help young readers build a strong foundation in faith, character, and understanding of God’s Word. Through carefully selected Bible stories, devotionals, and Christian-themed books.

How we Choose

We are very selective with our book choices. We focus on books that inspire positive mindsets, values, perspectives, leadership and life lessons because we believe that we will reap extraordinary rewards by sowing good seeds in our youth today, empowering them today to be tomorrow ready; and our world will be the better for it.

How we Read

We meet live virtually every first and last weekend of the month to start a book and finish together, and our FaithBuilders program runs on a similar schedule. Every week members are nudged to remind them where they should be in the book and on the weekends when we’re not meeting, we will either opt to posting a recorded review video by our mentors or a compilation of members recorded review videos to make the conversation interactive. Whichever option we choose, you can be sure that your child is in for a great and engaging experience!

How we Mentor

We believe that a love of reading is a driver of opportunity for children throughout their lifetime. A caring connection with a reading mentor helps to facilitate the attention, engagement, and confidence that all children and adolescents need to thrive. Mentored Readers book club provides a unique and winning combination of mutually reinforcing tools – Reading with our adult volunteer mentors who are matched with a small group of mentees and Mentoring through questioning and conversations aimed to encourage effective communication & listening, critical thinking, engagement and also draw out lessons and personal reflections from the text. Additionally, we mentor and train our advanced mentees to become teen mentors, empowering them to build the confidence they need for impactful leadership.
